Ajay Devgan’s Top 10 Movies You Must Watch

For the last 25 years, the box office has been said to be ruled by the three Khans of Bollywood. But two other dynamic stars (Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan) have also managed to consistently give commercial success to their producers during the same time period. Though Devgan is often referred as the expressionless performer, but over the years he has continuously proven everyone wrong. He has worked in all kinds of films and has got a great fan following who never tolerate his shitty movies. Comparatively one can easily say that neither of SRK’s movies in the last 10 years have been a flop and several of Devgan’s movies have seen those flop tags, but his great performances have never gone unnoticed. Here is a list of some of ajay devgan’s top and best movies.

Singham (2011)

Singham‘ is old wine, in a new bottle. Directed by Rohit Shetty, this action-flick offers nothing new, in terms of story. But what it packs in efficiently, are the performances by its hero Ajay Devgn & villain Prakash Raj, who hold your attention, with their impeccable performances.

Once Upon a Time in Mumbai (2010)

The inspiration for the character of Sultan Mirza (Ajay Devgan) was certainly derived from the  Robin hood Smuggler Haji Mastan Mirza. Sultan’s attire, his background, his occupation, his interest for the welfare of the poor, his love for a bollywood heroine and production of movies are obvious parallels to Mastan. Devgan portrays his character with ease and familiarity but makes a remarkable impression with the dialogues written by Rajat Arora.

Gangaajal (2003)

Apart from Devgan’s powerhouse performance, it’s practically the whole cast that deserves to be applauded for doing justice to their various roles as well, above all Manoj Joshi and Yashpal Sharma deliver brilliant performances that just breathes even more life into the film.

Zakhm (1998)

Ajay has been in the industry since 1991 and it took him 7 years to give the performance of his life. There is nothing wrong with ‘Zakhm’. It got Nargis Dutt Award for national integration and Ajay got national award for his acting. Mr. Bhatt wrote an unforgettable story and two of its songs are still popular. The story is about a muslim woman who marries a hindu man but disguises herself as hindu in front of her sons. When she gets burned during riots, her elder son (Ajay) makes sure that she gets the proper burial.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam(1999)

This one is mostly remembered for Salman-Aishwarya Jodi but it has got a stupendous performance from Ajay. Its plot has been adopted from a Bengali novel ‘Na Hanyate’ written by Maitreyi Devi .The film is divided into totally two different parts. The first half has got great comic timings and the second half is damn too serious. The story is about how a husband makes sure that his wife meets her true love.

The Legend of Bhagat Singh(2002)

Apart from being a biopic on the patriot’s life, the movie was in news due to its coinciding release with ‘23rd March 1931: Shaheed’ which was also based on Bhagat Singh’s life. This mess up came due to a feud between Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol over the issue of lead actor. Both of them were commercial disasters. Anyways Ajay played this role flawlessly and won a national award for his acting. It is said that Ajay didn’t act but he lived this role.

Company (2002)

Company is the story of two friends – Malik (Ajay Devgan) and Chandu (Vivek Oberoi) – how they build up the ‘Company’ – Bombay underworld on a global scale and thus establish their supremacy. A small misunderstanding between them turns into a large scale mafia war. Ajay Devgan fits very well into the role of Malik, a cold blooded don who always means business.

Deewangee (2002)

‘Surprise of the year’ can be the right set of words to define it. Until then his image was of always playing the protagonist, but this one movie changed everything and it left everyone awestruck. Ajay showcased why his acting skills can never be defined within any boundary. Well supported by the skills of Akshaye Khanna, it is one hell of a watch. The story is about a psycho lover who wants to get back her childhood love.

Omkara (2006)

Based on Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’, it was a continuation of Vishal Bharadwaj’s love for Shakespearean literature after Maqbool. When Vishal Bharadwaj directs a movie, even average actors look too good. So what can you expect from such an ensemble cast? Ajay did justice to the titular character but it was Saif Ali Khan who stole the show. It is considered as one of the finest movies of the 2000’s. The story is about the lust of power and to what extent does one go to grab it.

Drishyam (2016)

Ajay makes up for the time he was away from serious movies and excels scene by scene, Shriyadoes well too. Tabu is menacing and yet a mother aptly supported by Rajat.
