Founded in 1935, the New York Film Critics Circle is the oldest such group in the USA. The circle’s membership includes critics from daily and weekly newspapers, magazines and online publications. This year, they are first critics group to announce their list of winners. The awards will subsequently be handed out during their annual ceremony in January.

In December of each year, the organization meets to vote on awards for films released in the previous calendar year for the New York Film Critics Circle Awards, which are given annually to honor excellence in cinema worldwide by an organization of film reviewers from New York City–based publications.
