It was Eid and finally the much awaited movie Sultan starring Salman Khan and Anushka Singh was released. There was so much buzz that even the tickets weren’t available and me and my friends had to sit in the second row to watch it. In three days the movie entered the hundred crore club. It was obvious that a Salman Khan movie had to be such a hit. But the point is was there any story line or had a purpose?

Caution – Spoilers Ahead

After I spoke to some people , a lot of them said that the movie was motivational and I was amused. I am not a Salman Khan fan but after watching Bajrangi Bhaijan I assumed that this one would be a meaningful too. Excited to see it I agreed for the second row. The start was comical and funny, quite enjoyable. Salman Khan played the role of Sultan, a man who has no aim in life, works as a cable operator and falls in love with Arfa (Anushka). She is a wrestler, training for the Olympics.

Everything’s going well, Sultan chases Arfa and they decides to become a wrestler in a hope to marry her and they finally become friends. But suddenly Anushka blames him that he is aimless and illiterate so she can’t love him. And dayum, that was the changing point after that scene suddenly I don’t know what happens, Sultan becomes more determined to prove himself and focuses on wrestling.

The best part is that the wrestlers practice for years for the state level championship and he in one go wins it and the more interesting part that after Salman Khan wins it, Anushka not only starts loving him but also asks him to marry her. At that very moment. Well it was quite abrupt.

Then they happily get married, win championships together and enjoy their lives when Anushka gets pregnant. Not only does she get pregnant, Sultan suddenly becomes full of attitude and ego. Then he goes for a championship, meanwhile his baby is dead. By this I lost interest because nothing was making sense. Anushka leaves him and he leaves wrestling and decides to build a blood bank in the village, by raising funds.

In the second half he again decides to join wrestling in order to raise funds. He again trains this time harder to win the competition at any cost. Sultan is winning every match when suddenly he breaks his bones and again Arfa enters. They both try to solve the issue and with a SORRY everything is sorted. I mean if a sorry could solve everything he should have said it earlier, right? Then there was no need to make a whole film on this. But well the ending as expected, Sultan wins the championship, the build a blood bank, again win competitions together and live happily ever after.

Happy, Sad, Purposeful or not you decide, just sharing my opinion.
