It is 2002-03 academic year, New York is troubled with terrorism, and a young girl of 17 from a small countryside town called Sacramento with her hair dyed red insists that she must be called Lady Bird instead of Christine because it’s a name given to her, by her. Greta Gerwig, in her first written and directed film, is autobiographical with how she deals with it. But that’s not all; the film is a love letter of sorts for her town because it’s where she harmonizes her own self with Christine as one person.

‘Rangbaaz Phirse’ Review: Binge Worthy Tale of A Dream Gone Wrong https://movierdo.com/rangbaaz-phirse-review-binge-worthy-tale-of-a-dream-gone-wrong/ Thu, 09 Jan 2020 17:02:13 +0000 https://movierdo.com/?p=8758 ‘Rangbaaz Phirse’ Review: Binge Worthy Tale of A Dream Gone Wrong

With the advent of shows like Sacred Games and Mirzapur, an entire internet generation seemed to have been infected with a newfound interest in gangster stories, only this time closer to home. What made the shows and other preceding movies like Gangs of Wasseypur successful was the essence of vernacular and the colloquialism the remoter audience could relate to.

Following a close trail to the preceding examples, Bhav Dhulia (director) and Siddharth Mishra (writer), came up with Rangbaaz, a show based on real-life figures from the rustic lands of Northern India.

Netflix’s ‘Ghost Stories’ : Review https://movierdo.com/netflixs-ghost-stories-review/ Mon, 06 Jan 2020 09:58:01 +0000 https://movierdo.com/?p=8749 Netflix’s ‘Ghost Stories’ : Review

Within a rough one year span, Netflix has once again taken upon itself to bring together four of Bollywood’s most prominent directors since the last time they collaborated on the 2018 anthology, Lust Stories. The makers seemed to have gone either lazy or superstitiously strategic with the title and structure of the series which bear an uncanny resemblance to the 2018 feature film. Ghost Stories, like it’s predecessor, features four separate stories by the four directors, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee and Karan Johar, only this time the genre edges on the horror thrills.

What makes Sherlock so riveting a tale https://movierdo.com/what-makes-sherlock-so-riveting-a-tale/ Mon, 12 Aug 2019 05:05:53 +0000 https://movierdo.com/?p=8124 What makes Sherlock so riveting a tale

In probably a lame and an unsuccessful attempt to try and look cool I once told someone and I am quoting, “I’m more of a movie person than that of a TV series one.

I need a lot of stimulation to keep me hooked to something. Movies are cool, they don’t take up much time, and no regrets if it turns out to be bad, you can terminate it right then, and for TV series it is quite tricky.

What makes ‘Kota Factory’ such a rage for the internet right now https://movierdo.com/what-makes-kota-factory-such-a-rage-for-the-internet-right-now/ Sat, 18 May 2019 09:21:55 +0000 https://movierdo.com/?p=8371 What makes ‘Kota Factory’ such a rage for the internet right now

The series here gives Kota a life of itself, a heaving, breathing life, with its set of fad and fetishes. Kota could be a seeping depression, Kota could be a much planned success, Kota could be a painful suicide, Kota could be a bedecked future.

The title Kota Factory itself envelopes the very essentials of the undermining theme the series tries to canvas. The institutionalization of dreams, aspirations, and advertising success on a marketing level is what a certain section of our education system has come down to.

A meaty party of the South Asian literature is owed to Rabindranath Tagore’s contribution. Tagore hailing from an erudite Bengali family of Kolkata is the first Nobel Laureate from India having a finesse as a musician, a song-writer, an author, a poet and as an artist. He is associated with the birth of national anthems for two nations (India and Bangladesh) and an inspiration of the same for another country (Sri Lanka). He had an aversion to traditional classroom education, which led him to breed himself through unconventional teaching environment and eventually started the very prestigious Viswa Bharati University that still carries on his legacy.

It’s a make believe presumption that sequels to most series and movies fail to live upto the benchmark created by its first installment of the franchise. TVF Tripling was one of the very first web series out here in India, and oh boy was it loved. A simple plot construct of three siblings out on an impromptu, unplanned road trip set out for a watch that brought on smiles and laughter and a quite a few contemplative sighs.

Zoya did what she does the best.

How Bechdel Made Me A Cynic About Movies https://movierdo.com/how-bechdel-made-me-a-cynic-about-movies/ Wed, 06 Mar 2019 06:32:12 +0000 https://movierdo.com/?p=7460 How Bechdel Made Me A Cynic About Movies

Imagine having loved and idolized something all your life only to wake up someday to let it disappoint you with something you never quite perceived, it makes you question your own discretion. I had quite a similar plight when I acknowledged myself about the Bechdel test through some random article on my news feed.

For those who don’t know what a Bechdel test is, here’s a brief description, this is a media test developed by Liz Wallace and cartoonist Alison Bechdel as a practical joke inserted in one of her comics Dykes to Watch Out For, which basically aims at analysing how feminist a movie is, or rather, how male centric it is.
