The first Guy Ritchie film I had ever watched was Snatch (2000). I distinctly remember being blown away by the complete madness that the movie was, and after a second viewing, was completely enamoured by Ritchie’s work. Since then, I have watched most of his films multiple times and have enjoyed them blissfully for their quirkiness and the inimitable charm they possess. Of course, some viewers may find his films (especially the hilarious dialogues) a tad crude and unseemly, but each to their own, right?

There are some movies which bring up some superbly vivid imagery on the screen, and although being gruesome at times, draw you in completely. Pan’s Labyrinth (2006) or El laberinto del fauno is one such film. Replete with fantastical and surreal elements, the film might seem like a juvenile fairy tale on the surface, but it is a lot deeper than that. Where Pan’s Labyrinth succeeds is in its seamless juxtaposition of two incongruous themes, one set in reality, and the other in bold and imaginative fiction.

The Oscars, as everyone knows, are a massively important event. Featuring the most celebrated actors, actresses, directors, and the like from all over the world, the Oscars are hotly anticipated for the announcement of the winners in myriad categories. The glitz and the extravagant flamboyance surrounding the entire event begin right from the red carpet to the proclamation of the movie which has won the Best Picture. With most of the people inside the swanky Dolby Theatre seemingly having attained a demigod status, it is easy to see why the Oscars are such a dominant force in terms of award ceremonies.
