Was it ‘unnecessary’ to release the second season? What’s actually in room for all the 13 Reasons Why fans?
13 Reasons Why, 2017’s most critically acclaimed show, created quite a buzz last year, with its unflinching content that targeted issues like depression, cyberbullying, sexual assault and suicide, which are often not discussed and talked about openly. The show revolves around the suicide-mystery of one of the lead roles, Hannah Baker, played by Katherine Langford, and how Clay Jenson, played by Dylan Minnette, learns about his classmate’s suicide through a set of audio cassette tapes, recorded by Hannah herself. The show mainly deals with the thirteen reasons why Hannah took her own life, which included her own peer circle that affected her life.
The soul of the first season was the cassette tapes, which unveiled the reasons behind Hannah’s suicide. But, surprisingly the comeback season of this series doesn’t even offer a hint of the tapes, but only revolves around Hannah’s trial going to the court, the lawsuit filed against the school and how everyone on those tapes is called to testify in the trial. Another interesting thing about this season is that, so many unknown facts about Hannah’s life come into picture during the trial, some of which, the viewers could probably not have imagined while watching the first season, which brings us back to the fact that each and every story has a number of different perspectives. The writers of the show have kept the mystery quotient going on with the introduction of the Polaroid photographs that indicate, the story not being over yet, which creates a lot of curiosity amongst the viewers.

Although this show does talk about so many different teen problems and aims at creating an awareness about suicide, it received a lot of negative reviews, considering the fact that the show might prompt suicidal actions among the viewers. This season, however, is accused of being long and draggy, with the story revolving around the same old outline and characters. Many of the critics say that releasing this season was absolutely unnecessary, as it is a repetition of the same old things in a fancier way. Nevertheless, this season is worth a watch, at least for the suspense factor.
A warning clip has been added before the show, in which all the cast members are seen telling the viewers that people struggling with the above-mentioned issues themselves are not advised to watch this show, as it can get extremely hard for the viewers to go through the trauma all over again. So, if you’re someone who’s either dealing with or has already faced these problems, you may not want to watch this show.
Keeping all the pros and cons in mind, I would still want to watch this show, because why not? It’s still a great show with a good amount of mystery and drama in it. So I would totally recommend you guys to watch the brand new season 2 of 13 Reasons Why on Netflix, right away. And don’t forget to come back here to share your views about this season.
Happy watching! 😊
