When we hear the word ‘marriage’ what comes to our mind? Do we picture ourselves with a person and children in the future or do we decide that we’ll be committed to that person forever; Are we positive about it or do we get jitters about marriage just by the thought of it? However it may seem, marriage is a part of life that everyone has been through or are yet to go through.
Marriage is something which is as important as having your own career, especially in women’s lives. Runaway Bride is a 1999 American romantic comedy film , directed by Garry Marshall, starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere in the lead. Maggie Carpenter (Julia Roberts) has had a series of unsuccessful relationships and is always nervous about getting married which leads her to run away from her weddings, leaving her fiances’ standing at the altar. This gives her the title of ‘The Runaway Bride ‘. Meanwhile, in New York, a columnist Ike Graham (Richard Gere) writes an article about Maggie which is based on factual errors. This costs him his job but he is given another chance to write an article on Maggie with the correct information this time. He travels to Hale, Maryland so that he can get the true picture about Maggie. There he learns about Maggie’s fourth marriage. The question now arises that whether Ike can help the fourth groom-to-be or will Maggie again leave a man standing at the altar?‘Runaway Bride’ is an all time favourite, classic film that never ceases to touch peoples’ hearts. The film gives a picture about a woman who cannot commit to marriage and has some issues. It also showcases that how with the right choice, a person can live happily in life. The music is given by James Newton Howard and the cinematography is done by Stuart Dryburgh. The chemistry between Julia Roberts and Richard Gee is indeed a treat for the audience. Both the actors have played their roles tremendously, taking the audience with them and making the people feel what they’re going through in the film.
People tend to get scared when they hear the word ‘commitment’ because of which they are unable to imagine themselves with just a single person for the rest of their lives. This happens mainly with people who have had bad experiences in their childhood and they grow up to become distinct from people and are not ready for commitment, but when the right person comes along, the heart already knows.
