When Karan Johar went all, “Okay Google, turn on the rapid fire lights” on Koffee with Karan, he surely made us all go ‘ooh la la’ and I don’t know about you but I now have a saved rapid fire lighting effect in my living room. :P
Over the past few years, technology has been taking over every little aspect of our lives and we’re definitely not complaining about it. Be it helping in tracking our exercise routine with the help of wearable fitness tracker bands or making our houses a bit more secure with smart camera and door locks, all these devices have managed to lift a few worries off of our shoulders. As is our natural tendency, humans tend to resist change and hence people often think that these devices are causing more harm than benefitting our lives. Contrary to this belief, I think these devices not only help us manage our time and do our tasks more effectively but also take care of all our little worries so that we can shift our focus to other major tasks at hand.
Once I leave my house, I don’t have to worry about double-checking whether I’ve locked the doors properly, thanks to the smart door lock devices which enable the user to lock and unlock the doors remotely from their smartphones. After leaving from work for home, I can switch on the air conditioner or heater at home 15-20 minutes prior to my arrival, so that I enter the house in the perfect temperature (which might sound trivial but actually makes a big difference!). From keeping a track of how many calories I’m consuming and how many footsteps I’m walking each day to having ready playlists to match my taste and mood, these devices seem to work as a personal assistant who never gets tired.
Fitness has become one of the top priorities of the youth and almost every alternate person has a New Year resolution to become fitter in the coming year. It comes as no surprise that smart wearable have become a rage amongst Indians and spotting a person wearing one of these has become a common sight! Knowing plenty users and being a user of the fitness watch myself, I can totally vouch for it being a useful tool. It is a good way to keep your momentum check.
My mom often says to me, “Your generation is the generation of night owls” and in spite of staying awake until the wee hours of the night myself, 2018 has taught me that having a healthy sleep routine is really important and can do wonders to your health and mood. Some of the latest models of fitness trackers have a feature of sleep monitoring that not only tracks the number of hours that you’ve slept but also judges your sleep quality and tells you whether you’re well rested or not. Now, that didn’t stop me from staying awake on most nights, but it definitely helped me make my sleeping schedule a little better than it was before.
We may or may not realise it, but the way our lives function is changing, one technological advancement at a time. A future wherein these smart devices will be an essential part of our lives and our homes, the #SmartHomeRevolution, doesn’t seem too far away. And this technological transformation is sure to make the world a ‘smarter’ place for all!
