The Witcher Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

American fantasy drama series The witcher, produced by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich had first released in December 2019 on Netflix. The series that has been inspired by the book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski is widely popular among the audiences.  The show primarily focuses on Geralt of Rivia, a young princess Ciri of Cintra, and mighty sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg. The initial episodes build the characters, which eventually leads to a strong storyline taking place on a ‘continent.’ The first season of The Witcher has been well received by the viewers and has already topped the list of Netflix’s most viewed shows ever. People are already anticipating the release date of its second season. Here is what we know so far.

The Witcher Season 2 Release Date

Unfortunately Netflix hasn’t announced any release date yet for the Witcher season 2, but the makers have said it will premiere at the end of 2021. Last year, in August, the show’s official handle had announced that they have resumed shooting, which had got delayed because of Coronavirus breakout. The shoot was again suspended in November 2020 as some crew members were tested positive for covid-19.

What To Expect In The Witcher Season 2?

Netflix has recently released a teaser of the show’s second season. The teaser has given us glimpses of the story that will eventually shape up and the new monsters will enter the plot. The second season’s first look opens up with visuals of a limb of the creatures with an eyeball and the three skeletons. People are expecting it to be Crones of Crookback Bog, but these are all assumptions.

The Witcher Season 2: Who can be in it?

Season 2 of The Witcher will see the main cast from season 1 that included Henry Cavill (Geralt of Rivia), Anya Chalotra (Yennefer of Vengerberg), Freya Allan (crown princess of Cintra). It will also consist of the familiar witchers from season 1. You can expect Grelat’s father figure Vesemir played by Kim Bodnia, to make an appearance, along with his peer Eskel who will join him. As far as new faces are concerned, you will see Lambert, who had trained Ciri with sword combat, will be played by Paul Bullion(Peaky Blinders), Kristofer Hivju (Game Of Thrones), Aisha Fabienne Ross (The Danish Girl), Edward Rowe (Bait).

The Witcher Season 2 Plot: What can be it about?

The finale episode of The Witcher season 1 leaves the audiences with Yennefer’s fate in uncertain circumstances. The army of Nilfgaard’s defeated and showing Geralt of Rivia uniting with Ciri, the crown princess, with a special gift. In the teaser, Geralt of Rivia is shown convinced about the loss of Yennefer’s life in the battle of Sodden and takes Ciri to the safest place he knows, which is his childhood home Kaer Morhen. Commenting on the plot of the second season, the showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich told DigitalSpy, “What I would say is that season one is very much about building blocks. It’s about constructing the world, and setting up these characters, and putting them on paths, and knocking those dominoes over.”

In season 2, we can expect, all the Geralt’s encounters with the other characters like Ciri and Yennefer at different kingdoms start connecting the dots, gets more prominent, and converge. As the plot unfolds, it gets more intense and watching Ciri and Yennefer being part of this action is worth looking forward to.

Will There Be Season 3?

Season 2 was already decided to be made while filming season 1. It is more likely that there will be season 3 as well.
