Women, Feminism and “Four More Shots Please!”

Amazon prime had been creating a great deal of a hype regarding its new series called ‘Four More Shots Please’. I decided that I must watch it. Ah! It was a delight. I loved how it began with a bang, in its literal sense. Two characters on the desk in an office meeting. Let’s not forget, one of these two characters was Milind Soman and he never fails to drop jaws because of how dashing he is.

The series makes one realize that women have a life of their own; they are ambitious, beautiful beings who crave equal freedom as the men. Yes, the series has a slightly passive aggressive feminist approach, but that is what makes it stand out. While a lot of people watched it because they were bored, some people continued watching it because of the kind of story line it had. All episodes end at a cliff hanger, leaving you wanting more. They deftly showed that life s not a bed of roses where you get what you want and party hard. Life comes with its fair share of thorns and things go wrong. One must learn how to deal with these issues and strive to grow, never stopping.‘Four More Shots Please’ gives us a closer look at how four women of different backgrounds and different lifestyles cope with the ups and downs of their lives together. Rangita Pritish Nandy, writer and producer of this series has worked wonders here and you’ll know when you watch it. Reading women is tough, but it is very aptly done here. Four women dealing with their life as it comes and the kind of effect parents and past incidents have in our life is something definitely dealt with in this series. Women are not meant to be locked up within four walls, they know how to have fun too and they damn well deserve to rewind after week long slogging at home and offices.

This series has people anticipating their twenties. One gets scared of everything one has to face, but also looks forward to the fun part of being an adult. Another, important aspect that the series dealt with is the taboo that people often place around homosexual relationships. One of the characters is bisexual and is out of the closet, but the woman she loves is not. She deals with her anxieties about her relationship and even comes out to her family about her being bisexual. It is true that the people of the LGBTQ community often face insecurities regarding their sexuality on a daily basis and have to face a ton of discrimination when it comes to family and certain narrow minded people. The show puts forward the truth about the Indian Mentality about such issues.

All in all ‘Four More Shots Please’ is a great watch. It is funny, emotional and brushes past the drama that engulfs the lives of upper middle class women in general. Starting from the ‘get married you’re old enough’ to ‘divorce is bad’ to ‘OCDs’ to ‘sexuality’, it deals with all these topics exactly how they are supposed to be dealt with, bringing out the true nature and characteristics of women.
