Indian Television has seen a breakthrough in content in the recent years. The saas-bahu dramas which garnered major TRP’s earlier are now gradually being replaced as writers are willing to experiment with characters and genres. Anirudh Pathak has brought a masterpiece in the form of Prithvi Vallabh to our television sets. He is the producer of the show as well as the writer of it. Other writers include Manoj Sinha, Ashutosh Kumar, and Sweta Mishra.
This is not the first time we have seen an Indian Historical Mythological show. But, it is definitely the first time a show has been made on a level par excellence. Prithvi Vallabh had created enough hype before it’s release as it was constantly in news for being compared to the western T.V. show Game of Thrones and the iconic – Bahubali. That in itself speaks for the standards the show had set for itself. It has a very strong cast with Ashish Sharma and Sonarika Bhadoria in the lead roles of Prithvi Vallabh and Mrinal, respectively. They are supported by Mukesh Rishi, Kiran Kumar, Shalini Kapoor, Seema Biswas, and other well known faces of T.V. and Films. Thus, no doubt the acting skills are brilliantly exhibited by each actor.
The script is another praiseworthy element of the show.
Gira de tere paas jitney ashq hai aae ghatayein, yeh pyaas kisi ke milne se bujhegi, tere barasney se nahi.
How can you not be swept off your feet at such captivating dialogues?
The dialogues are exquisitely written in “Shudh Hindi” but don’t worry, it isn’t something that will go completely over your heads. It will basically give you Sanjay Leela Bhansali cinema feels. The script and storyline depict well done background research and thorough brainstorming.
Arvind Singh is the cinematographer for the show. He has been a part of films like Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and Jodha Akbar amongst many others. It would be right to say that the man has put his experience marvelously in the camera work for the programme. Strategic action sequences don’t make the action seem entirely berserk. Such strategy still lacks even in many movies today but, the show has maintained its level of logic in its action sequences. The creative aspect of Prithvi Vallabh leaves one charmed. The costumes are simply rich and beautiful. Along with that, the sets are stunning. They depict Indian royalty so brilliantly that you would be left wishing that you were born in that time. Prithvi Vallabh has to be praised for its music too. The instrumental background tunes and songs alongwith the lyrics are enthralling. The soundtrack almost has a magical feel to it.
It is wonderful to see characters with such depth. Each one is uniquely written and tells a different story of their own. Even though it is a show written depicting an entirely different century, it tends to slip in lessons that are strongly valid in the society today. It breaks gender and societal stereotypes throughout its story. Finally, the love story of Prithvi and Mrinal which lays the foundation of the show will leave you in awe as both the actors are so good looking and exceptional in their work. Breaking the stereotypes, we have a man who propagates love, peace, art, music, and literature. On the other hand, we have a princess warrior who is driven with a lust of war and vengeance. It is intriguing to see the two come together especially when Princess Mrinal considers Prithvi an enemy. Though of course, it highlights the concept of love which rises from hatred. The plot is indeed bound to make every romantic swoon.
Here’s a show which has definitely set a benchmark for Indian Television, in its entirety. It is not a never ending saga and will probably have 2 seasons with 40 episodes each (at least that is what has been decided till now). So, if you haven’t already seen the show, catch up on it on Sony T.V. It will definitely make your weekend worth the wait and make you obsessed with it right from the first episode.
