‘Cinderella’ (2015) : Have Courage and be Kind

How many times has it been that we girls have dreamt about having a glass slipper and a prince sweeping us off our feet? Well, that is what ‘Cinderella’ does to me. I’ve grown up watching the film, and it is the kind of film that always makes me believe in fairy tales and happy endings, no matter how hard life becomes.

‘Cinderella’ is a 2015 romantic fantasy film, directed by Kenneth Branagh and produced by Simone Kinberg, Allison Shearmur and David Barron. The screenplay is written by Chris Weitz. The film is a live-action remake and is based on the 1950 animated film of the same name. The film stars Cate Blanchett, Lily James and Richard Madden in the lead.

Ella and her family are living in a humble home in the woods and are happy in their lives until her mother falls ill. She promises her mother to ‘have the courage and be kind’ and soon her mother passes away. Her father marries a wicked woman, who has two unpleasant daughters, and when her father dies suddenly, the woman starts showing her true colours. She dismisses all the staff in the house to save money and forces all the household work on Ella.

She accepts that this is her fate, but this does not stop her from dreaming. Everything changes when one day Ella encounters Kit, the crown prince, who acts as the palace apprentice. They both take a liking to each other. Kit’s father, the King, is not well and asks Kit to take over the throne by marrying a princess. Kit, who is still thinking about his encounter with Ella, convinces his father to invite all desirable maidens from the village to the Royal Ball.

She attends the ball in disguise and gets a chance to dance with Kit. He is mesmerized by her beauty and makes up his mind about marrying this mysterious girl. Ella and Kit are spending time alone but as soon as the clock strikes 12, She has to leave. As she rushes from the palace, she leaves a glass slipper behind as the only hope for Kit to find her.

Even though we’ve watched ‘Cinderella’ throughout our childhood, the film is still very close to our hearts. The live-action remake in itself has been made beautifully; the cinematography is done by Haris Zamberlokous, which has its uniqueness, and the music is given by Patrick Doyle is heart touching indeed. The film makes us believe in magic and delivers the message that the people who have a kind heart, always end up with the most significant things in life. All we need to do is believe in ourselves.
